God is the Electricity

God is the electricity and we are the lamps.

Living Luminaries

Another quote from the movie Living Luminaries.  One of the things Ron at Avant Garde does before showing his movies is he watches them several times to pick out quotes that resonate, then he types them up.  I pulled out my Blackberry the moment I heard this quote and opened my text pad, even though I knew that Ron did this for us I wanted to make doubly sure I had this quote.

As it turned out the quote was typed up for us.

What does the quote above mean to me?  God is the power but unless we turn HIM on he won’t do us any good.  We can have electricity but unless we take advantage of it by using it we may as well not have it at all.

I find it ironic that as I sit here writing about electricity there is a VERY real possibility that I’ll lose it sometime tomorrow (Sunday, August 28, 2011).  As most of you who follow my blog should know by this time, I continue to write my blogs well in advance of their postings.  I’m VERY cognizant of this hurricane that is bearing down on Connecticut tonight and tomorrow.  I want to make sure that next week’s blogs (September 5-September 9) are written and post published.

Are you taking advantage of God?
Do you turn him on?
Do you listen when he speaks?

How else do you turn God on?
Spiritual reading?
Biblical reading?

If you want to seek God but don’t know where to start, start by finding solitude.  Turn off all the noise and simply be.  Listen for God in the silence.  You may be surprised at the deafening voice you hear.

Be Happy!  Be Well!  Be Positive!
Blessings to you.

  1. I love this simple, yet powerful, message today, Chris. I feel I have turned Him on every time I sit and read the scriptures for my daily devotions; He finds one that speaks to me, and I write a reflection on it. Those are such special moments when I truly feel connected with God.

    Blessings, my friend!

    • Good Morning, Martha:
      LOVE the line:
He finds one that speaks to me,

That’s EXACTLY how I feel when writing. I feel HE is speaking through me. It’s another example of messages being EVERYWHERE; but unless you know to look for them they will pass you by.

      Thanks for stopping.

  2. I loved the quote! I’ll have to check out that film sometime 🙂 I “turn God on”..or tap into encountering Him primarily through practicing mindfulness in my everyday activities, meditating and writing…I love to write! 🙂 I also encounter Him through prayer and reading Scripture as well as other sacred works…like right now I’m exploring the Bhavagad Gita.

    Great post Chris 🙂

    • Thanks, Jessica. Might have to look at Bhavagad Gita. Keep doing what you’re doing. God loves that you’re seeking him any way possible. There is NO wrong way.

  3. I keep God turned on 24:7. Even in my sleep I’m tuned in to the spirit world and to his messages. Sometimes he even speaks more clearly in dreams because he gets out his flannel board and shows me the story with pictures! Great post, one I want to save and share.

    • Hi Debra:
Funny you mention that in sleep you’re tuned in. I sometimes feel God’s presence in my sleep as well. Sleep is our quietest time when we are most open to the divine. Feel free to share.
